St. Patrick’s Day in Seminole County: Why I Celebrate (And Why It Matters Living Local)

It’s March in Seminole County! That means it’s officially SPRING SELLING SEASON. And also St Patrick’s Day! The Kilted Team and St Patrick’s Day go together like potatoes and butter!

It’s the easiest day of the year to wear a kilt in public and have people nod approvingly instead of asking questions.

I’ve joked before that St. Patrick’s Day is the easiest holiday to make “tax deductible” when your brand revolves around tartan. But truthfully? I’d celebrate it even if I wasn’t in Central Florida real estate.

I’ve just always been fascinated with Ireland.

Yes, I’m Irish. But no one in my family ever really talks about it. There weren’t huge parades growing up. No annual soda bread competitions. No big Evans family gatherings. Many years growing up it passed without even so much as a “how do ya do.”

But I’ve always been drawn to the history. The music. The storytelling. The quick wit. The culture that somehow manages to be deeply poetic and sarcastic at the same time.

That “quick to craic” spirit that makes community at every turn with laughter and high spirits, it speaks to me.

And that’s what St. Patrick’s Day is really about to me.

Community.

St. Patrick’s Day Events in Seminole County

Seminole County probably isn’t going to compete with Chicago any time soon for “best city for St Patrick’s Day”, and I don’t think the St Johns River is likely to be dyed green anytime soon

But that doesn’t mean we can’t host some great St Patrick’s Day festivities! The city of Oviedo is hosting a St Patrick’s Day festival. It’s at Oviedo on the Park - a quaint town center community if you’ve never seen it! The festival will feature live music, food trucks and other sales vendors, and more!

Celebrate at Home: My Shepherd’s Pie Tradition

St Patrick’s Day has been something I celebrate for years now!

Every year I make my Shepherd’s Pie. It’s hearty, simple, and one of those meals that just feels right in March. In fact, I usually have some friends over and make not only my famous Shepherds Pie, but a Cottage Pie as well!

If you didn’t know the difference, it’s the protein! A Cottage Pie has ground beef, and the Shepherds Pie has ground lamb.

If you want the full recipe (and yes, I filmed a tutorial too), you can find it here:

A recipe I’ve perfected over the last decade or so of preparation. I started making this back in college at UCF, around the time I started wearing my kilt, and it just sort of stuck. My friend’s all love the taste, and I love bringing friends to my home to eat it! Win-win.

This holiday, for me, is about gathering people together. I hope you can use this recipe to fill your home with joy and laughter as well. And if you do make it, please send me a photo! I’d love to feature it on my social media.

Why Living in Seminole County Feels Lucky

I was born and raised right here in Seminole County. I’ve seen the growth and the change. I’ve seen buildings get built, and buildings torn down. I’ve seen the insides of our school as a student and as an adult. So I tell you this with earnest and truth:

I feel lucky to live here in Seminole County.

Whether you’re in Altamonte Springs or Winter Springs, we have amazing schools to be proud of - from elementary school to high school!

We have amazing community events throughout the year - Longwood, Sanford, Oviedo, every city puts on thoughtful and well attended events to get out and meet your neighbors!

And our community is top notch! Seminole County is unique within the state of Florida - we are one of the SMALLEST counties geographically speaking, but we have one of the largest populations; that puts Seminole County in the top 5 population densities across the Sunshine State. A multitude of groups, clubs, associations, both virtual and in person.
If you’re interested, I’m always happy to provide some events - and I personally host an event (sometimes two) EVERY month. You can join us for lunch on March 28th for our monthly Locals Lunch Bunch
